Local Developer Shawn Kaleta Arrested for DUI

HOLMES BEACH – Anna Maria Island developer and business owner Shawn Thomas Kaleta, 45, was arrested for DUI and resisting arrest on June 15.

According to a 29-page police report by Holmes Beach Police Officer Andrew Adkins, Kaleta was observed speeding in a black Mercedes-Benz SUV and driving erratically on Manatee Avenue. During the traffic stop, Kaleta failed to follow directions, exited the vehicle without being asked, and refused to provide his driver’s license.

Despite Adkins detecting alcohol and attempting a field sobriety test, Kaleta did not cooperate. When informed he was under arrest, Kaleta resisted, leading to a physical struggle before being detained.

At the police station, Kaleta complained of dehydration and requested medical attention, which delayed the DUI observation period. After being cleared by paramedics, he was transported to the hospital but did not provide a breath or blood sample.

Kaleta was released from the hospital without medical issues and was later taken to the county jail. He was released the following day on a $620 bond. Kaleta is charged with DUI and resisting arrest without violence, both misdemeanors, with an arraignment scheduled for July 17 at 9 a.m. at the Manatee County Courthouse in Bradenton.
