Shawn Kaleta a Prominent and Controversial Real Estate Developer Arrested For DUI

Holmes Beach police arrested 45-year-old resident Shawn Kaleta on June 15 2023 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol, a second-degree misdemeanor. Additionally, Kaleta faced a first-degree misdemeanor charge for resisting or obstructing a law enforcement officer without violence. Known for owning numerous businesses and vacation rental properties in the city and on Anna Maria Island, Kaleta's arrest unfolded after a patrol officer observed him accelerating through a turn late at night, weaving within his lane, and nearly hitting a sign. Despite initial compliance, Kaleta's behavior raised suspicion as he struggled to produce his driver's license, exhibited signs of impairment, and resisted field sobriety exercises. After refusing breath samples and medical evaluation, Kaleta was transported to the Manatee County jail, where he was later released on bond. Attorney Jason Miller of the Najmy Thompson firm provided a statement on Kaleta's behalf, citing family health issues and expressing confidence in clearing the charges. While an arraignment was pending, the potential consequences of conviction for the misdemeanors ranged from fines to imprisonment.
